In Ramirez Group we strongly believe that having fresh fruits and vegetables directly from Mexico is an important factor in our daily life.

Avocados

The avocado (Persea americana) is a tree native to Mexico and Central America, classified in the flowering plant family Lauraceae along with cinnamon, camphor and bay laurel. Avocado or alligator pear also refers to the fruit, botanically a large berry that contains a single seed.

Avocados offer numerous health benefits. They contain lutein, which can help keep eyes healthy. Avocados are a nutrient booster that help the body absorb more phytonutrients from other foods. Avocados contain carotenoids, phytonutrients that can help prevent some chronic diseases, and beta-sitosteral, which can help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

Avocados offer nearly 20 vitamins and minerals in every serving, including potassium and lutein. Avocados are low in sugar, and they contain fiber which helps you feel full longer.

The fruit is not sweet, but distinctly and subtly flavored, with smooth texture. It is used in both savory and sweet dishes, though in many countries not for both. The avocado is common in vegetarian cuisine as a substitute for meats in sandwiches and salads because of its high fat content.

It is used as the base for the Mexican dip known as guacamole, as well as a spread on corn tortillas or toast, served with spices

A ripe avocado yield to gentle pressure when held in the palm of the hand and squeezed.
